Newsletter – Jul 2005

Must apologise for being a bit thin - I'm off north on holidays and have not had enough time.

Coming Events

Make sure you have your diary clear for the next CAA meeting (Wed 13 Jul). Stefan has arranged that a local professional fly tier will be coming to discuss his craft.

Slightly further into the future, don't forget the club's 60th Anniversary celebrations at the Weston Club (Royals Rugby) on Sat 21st October. We are still looking for clues on how to run down past members to ensure we send them an invitation. Also, any suggestions on an appropriate speaker would be welcome

NSW Council of Freshwater Anglers

Ian asked that everyone be reminded of our rejoining the Council. Their website is at www.freshwateranglers.com.au and their latest newsletters has some interesting items including news on the raising of the height of Tallowa dam on the Shoalhaven River.

There is also the obligation to attend meetings. Ian went to the recent meeting at Buckenderra. He is not able to attend the next meeting: "Our AGM will be held in the Riverview Room at Nepean Rowing Club on the banks of the Nepean River on Saturday 20 August 2005. The address is Bruce Neale Drive, Penrith 2750. The meeting will commence at 9.00 am and usually runs to about 4.00 pm".

We're looking for a volunteer or two to attend representing CAA. Please contact Ian.

In Lieu of Peter and Bill's Report, here's Peter's Report

(from before season closing)

Gooday Bill,

Got a nice brown again today on the Murrumbidgee. She was 52cm brown that has already spawned and was in marvellous nick. She was followed in by another brown slightly larger which I think was a male trying to take advantage of a lady in distress. It was hilarious to watch and as I was using two flies there was a slight chance of the male taking the dry fly. She was caught on a montana Nymph and I also caught a 30cm rainbow in a different hole. I saw another brown of similar size to this one which came out from under a log to take the nymph but operator error caused it to be dropped. Incredibly this fish came from about 30ft downstream, just shows what incredible eyes they have as water was murky.

Minutes of Previous Meeting

Minutes of the meeting of 11 May 2005 had been disseminated via email. Highlights were read out and minutes were accepted.

Matters Arising

Ian attended the NSW Council of Freshwater Anglers at Buckenderra and gave a brief report.

Max and Stuart are preparing some instructions on use of the club boat and maintenance program. Boat rego is being processed.

The meeting sought to register our thanks to Max for all the work he has conducted on the boat over the years and especially the latest work with cover and seats.

Future Program

No fishing trips in the near future.

Members are reminded of the Anniversary Dinner on Sat Oct 21. Ideas are sought for guest speaker and also Ian will be looking for information about past members so that they can be invited to this special occasion.

Next Meeting

Next meeting 13 Jul 2005.

Closure

Ian declared the meeting closed. Scott Mitchell gave an entertaining and well received talk on his preparation for the road trip to Weipa (especially the boat trailer design) as well as some slides of the fish to be had.
