Wed 14 Nov – next meeting
Sat/Sun 24-25 Nov – Bass fishing at Brogo – see more information below.

Sheila Maclean receives the main raffle prize donated by Bryan Pratt.
There was still a little confusion on the dates and times, however five of us ended up rendezvousing at the big trout. Much disappointment about how few trout had gotten up into the higher reaches of the Eucumbene – seems there was much more success a fair way downstream from the Portal. As a consequence, Ian’s bag of two good fish (including one of 38 cm) gave him the prize.

Bill with a small fish taken early on Saturday.

Peter not long afterwards.

At the barbeque.
Ian raised at the AGM that our trophy rules resulted in some anomalous situations. Here is the recommended revised version.
DRAFT
CANBERRA ANGLERS ASSOCIATION
TROPHY GUIDELINES
Basic Principles
A

club outing) is also eligible for one other trophy, ie best trout
on fly, best trout by any method for year to 31 July or best trout by a
junior
A
fish caught other than on a club outing is eligible for one trophy only
All
fish to be caught from ACT or local regional NSW waters, ie Regions 3 and 4 as
defined by the NSW Council of Freshwater Anglers
Fish
to be registered at club meetings or by email notification to Secretary
All registrations to be according to length rather than weight of fish

With Lyle Knowles a week away on the Eucumbene, the boys decided to give their old hunting ground on the Goodradigbee a try. After an ‘exciting’ drive the river was reached, and while there were plenty of campers by the river, there was only one other party of fishermen on the river. Unfortunately they were upstream of the boys and thrashing the water with inexpert fly and lure. Whether this was a cause or not, few fish were seen and only a small one caught (by Peter of course, but with no photographic evidence, the doubts remain J.

Bill casts to a favourite spot – no-one home today.
Hi all,
thought i would let u know how i am going. Things have changed quite a bit since i last emailed u. I have changed jobs and am now working for sunshine coast toyota, detailing cars for the service department. Just last weekend, 29th, 30th sept, i caught my first decent fish. a flathead of 57.5cm in length, was shown how to use a cast net and am casting it like a pro already. And also was stung by what i am 99% sure was a baby stonefish that i brought ashore in my cast net. Fortunately i suffered no ill effect other than a swollen and sore left thumb. and a jab in the arm with a tetanus shot. I as yet have not joined a fishing club up here.
I did learn however that there is a small freshwater dam not far from home that contains some large saratoga. Down side is i need more than a 5 weight fly outfit to tackle them with.
Hope your all well down south, have missed going on the outings with u already.
Will kepp u posted on further big catches that i make. Say gday to everyone for me at the meeting tomorrow night.
Cheers
Scott
This has been an excellent weekend in the past (although attendance has been patchy). It is a lovely spot and the fishing at dusk and dawn has always been reliable. Checkout the December newsletters for 2004, 2005, 2006 to get a feel.
The directions are up on the web at http://www.blair.cfgn.net/caa/brogo/directions.htm

We are going to THE OLD RIVERSIDE HOME SITE. There are zero facilities there – bring everything, food, drink, water, shelter, fishing gear, boat
MINUTES OF CAA MEETING 10 Oct 2007
http://www.canberra-anglers.websyte.com.au/
Members present: Ian, Alan, Peter, Greg, Charlie, Geoff, Les, Luke and Bob.
Apologies: Bill, Owen and Stefan.
President Ian declared the meeting open and welcomed two new members, Luke and Bob.
Minutes of Previous Meeting
Minutes of the previous meeting of the 12 Sept 2007 were read and accepted.
Matters Arising
Fly casting lessons. Thanks to the members who attended the fly casting lessons run over three Sundays at the Parliament House lawns, and at the trout hatchery. Approximately 40 members of the public attended, keen to experience fly fishing. Twelve club members were eager to teach all they knew. Special thanks goes to member Mark F for providing the instruction on all days, ably assisted by Geoff. We also need to thank our sponsors, Rob Paxevanos from Tackle World, and Brian Pratt from Pratt’s Tackle Box for their generous support.
Googong Dam. Ian had a 92-page report on the future of Googong for fishing and other public use. Members were encouraged to submit their views to Ian for development into a club response to this report.
Inwards Correspondence
We have received 20 copies of the new freshwater fishing rules (NSW).
Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer was absent from the meeting.
Ian, as President, was able to report on the Treasurer’s behalf that raffles to support the club were run on the days of the fly casting lessons. The Treasurer was happy with their success and will report at a later meeting.
Fishing Reports
Lyle Knowles Trophy Day. Five members attended the day and the weigh in on Saturday 6 Oct at Adaminaby. A barbecue followed. All members caught fish. Ian had the most successful bag, with a 38cm rainbow trout.
Geoff reports a very successful time on the Eucumbene River. He caught numerous fish on wets.
Charlie has battled two or three good carp in the ACT.
Luke reported yellowbelly on the move and being caught in Burley-Griffin.
Club Events Program
Fly tying lessons. Neither Mark F nor Stuart attended so we were unable to confirm the next scheduled lesson, which is October 24.
Brogo Dam November 24/25. Bill and Stuart did not attend so we have no further details to announce as yet.
Closure
The President declared the meeting closed at 9.05 pm with the next meeting to be held on 14 Nov 2007.
Geoff then gave the members a presentation of photographic equipment and techniques, old and new.
