Newsletter – October 2007
Sat 6 Oct – Lyle Knowles on the Eucumbene River – details in September minutes below – note that this is before the next meeting
Wed 10 Oct – next meeting
We should have a think about whether we might seek to comment on the Googong Foreshores Draft Plan of Management 2007 which is now open for public comment until Tuesday 13 November 2007. For instance we might care to seek extension to closing hours for at least some days of the week in order to be able to fish dusk or dawn.
There didn’t seem to me to be any suggested restrictions on fishing, but we need some more eyes on this document.
A goodly crowd turned up for both days – being blessed with bright skies and gentle breezes. The two Marks did a great job of instructing and most novice flycasters showed great improvement.

The second day had an entertaining guest join us – a young magpie seemed bent on stealing tippet material for his nest.

Norm providing attentive instruction

The third day was held at the Eucumbene Trout Farm under clear skies. Peter reported “three fish were caught in main dam but many were seen cruising the shallower water with some in spawning mode moods”. Many thanks to Peter for the photos from the day.

Some of the crowd

Ian presenting Chris with a bottle of wine in appreciation for his hospitality and support – a nice CAAbernet Sauvignon perhaps.

This time a giant barra – 131 cm and estimated 60-65lb.

During the fly tying classes, there’s been a lot of discussion about hackle. Mark has provided the lowdown.
