Peter’s Report

Pete and I haven’t been fishing together for a while. Even the guru has been skunked, but back in July he did provide photo evidence that the fish are still alive in Jindabyne – image taken from Thredbo River bridge.

Hey Bill, had an unsuccessful trip to Jindy on Sunday .. never saw a fish between Hatchery Bay and Woolindibby creek, Anyway I thought I'd send this photo I took .. Can you spot the fish?

PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2006-07

The past year saw stream and lake conditions affected by extremes of weather. Even with the good rain and snowfalls recently there is likely to be continued pressure on Snowy Mountains lake levels for irrigation and power generation.  At this stage the fishery seems to be coping but the longer term picture may not be so good if water levels are kept consistently low.  Many streams have had to cope with both drought and heavy rain.  Reports by members at monthly meetings indicated reasonable catch rates, apart from the badly affected streams.

The fly casting lessons last September were successful in introducing more people to the gentle art.  The enthusiasm of the newcomers was evident from the good turnout at the Eucumbene Trout farm on a very windy day.  Many thanks to all the club members who took part, to Doris and Bryan Pratt from the Tackle Box for their donation of an excellent raffle prize and fly casting outfits and to Chris at the Eucumbene Trout Farm.

Participation levels in club outings were varied as usual.  The transfer of the Lyle Knowles outing from the Cotter to the Eucumbene River proved to be a success, in that some good trout were landed.  An organiser has been nominated for each outing on the program for the coming year.  Please give them your support so that any bookings or meeting points can be arranged and notified in good time.

The club’s New Zealand trip turned into a two person event.  Peter and Bill had a great time but the exercise showed how difficult it is to achieve a consensus of timing, cost and fishing requirements for a group of individual anglers.

Attendance at monthly meetings during the year averaged 14.  Meeting topics were varied as usual, including George’s adventures in Christmas Island and Arizona, Charlie’s carp secrets, Bruce’s native fish techniques and we heard from Peter, Bill, Mark, Stuart and Geoff on their respective New Zealand exploits. DVD’s on various topics were also shown.

For the second year running, Stuart is conducting fly tying classes for interested club members.

Our affiliation with the NSW Council of Fresh Water Anglers continued and we provided a delegate to two of the four meetings held during the year. We are entitled to two delegates (volunteers welcome) and I encourage all members to review the current issues on the CFA web site so that we can make an informed contribution.

In reviewing the trophy awards for the past year I noted two matters.  Firstly, the trophy for best trout by a junior has not been awarded since 1997-98.  Secondly, it would be useful to set out criteria for allocating the trophies.  As things stand, each trophy is separate.  One exceptional trout could win four trophies, or five if caught by a junior.

I thank all members and committee members for their support during the year.  In particular, our Secretary Bill, our Treasurer Stefan and Vice-President Geoff have contributed to a successful year. I look forward to everyone’s continued participation as our club enters its sixty-third year.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 8 AUGUST 2007

TREASURER’S REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 2006-2007

The financial position of the club continues to be reasonable.

Membership of the club is still good although down on last year. The membership base has been strengthened through old members introducing new people. The fly casting lessons always bring a few new members, but as has been the case over past years, retaining their interest has always been a problem. The current membership stands at 28.

Incoming funds for the club were principally composed of membership fees (55%) and the annual fly casting raffle (43%). Both of these  amounts were down on last year by about 20%.

Expenditure this year was appreciably higher than incomings due to the purchase of new fly rods for the casting lessons. This asset will be written off over five years.

The club boat motor required a major service this year and this is reflected the additional equipment costs. No offset was recorded against this in boat use fees. Members should think about using this resource more, and so defray some of the associated costs in holding this item.

No major changes need to be made to how the club operates.

I therefore recommend that:

            (a)        this Treasurers’ report be accepted;

            (b)        membership fees be retained at the current level;
